Where are program settings stored?

The menu command Tools | Locate settings file locates Password Agent settings folder under user’s roaming profile folder (typically C:\Users\<YourUserNameHere>\AppData\Roaming\Moon Software\Password Agent).

You can also open this folder in Windows Explorer by pasting path %APPDATA%\Moon Software\Password Agent (include %-marks) to Windows Explorer location bar.

The license key file is PwAgent.key and the program settings are in the PwAgent.ini file. You can copy these files to the same location on another computer, but be sure Password Agent is not running on the destination computer when you do so; otherwise, the freshly copied settings file will be overwritten when Password Agent is closed.

If the settings file PwAgent.ini is missing from that folder, then default settings are used on startup and a new settings file will be created.

If there is a settings file or license key file in the application directory, then that file is used instead of the one from the user’s profile. That makes Password Agent more portable, and you can also force users to certain settings by serving the settings file along with the executable from a network share. If the share is read-only, then users also cannot change settings (they can change, but when Password Agent is closed, the changed settings are not saved as the settings file is read-only).
