Lost or forgotten master password
If you forgot your master password, then first try not to panic too much – it is likely that you’ll recall it later when you are not nervous. However, if your master password is really forgotten or lost, then please understand that there is no way to open your data file without a valid master password. The program does not have any “back doors” and we can’t magically “reset” your file if you have lost your master password, so be careful not to lose your master password. Your master password is not stored in your data file, only a “fingerprint” of it, so it is not possible to “retrieve” it from your file if you have lost it. This is by design, as it is not possible to make a secure password manager if it had built-in means to open a file without a valid master password.
Note: If you have changed your master password lately and cannot access the file with the new password but remember your previous master password, then it may be possible to revert to an older version of your data file which used the previous master password. In that case, please see the topic How to revert to an older version of a data file.
