How to revert to older version of data file

Here we restore older version of data file from automatic backup file (.oldN), which is likely missing latest modifications. To restore the latest version you should always restore your original data file from backup. If you specified alternative file locations in Backup section of program settings then Password Agent always copied data file to alternative location after each change.

Previous versions of data files have extension .old plus number, like .old1, .old2 etc. These version files will be kept in the same directory as your data file. Newest old version file has extension .old1, others are older in increasing order. For example .old5 file does not contain last 5 changes. The number of available old file versions depends on Number of old files to keep when saving program setting.

Power users can just rename an .old backup file to .pwa to open it as standard data file, or this can also be done from within Password Agent:

  1. To open an .old version file invoke menu command File | Open and in the Open dialog list files of type Old data files (*.old) instead of default Data files (*.pwa). Then only old version files are listed and you can select one to open. Old version files will be only opened in read-only mode.

  2. To make the open .old version your main version invoke menu command File | Revert to .old file (this command is only visible if you have unlocked your old file with master password). After confirming that you agree that your data file will be replaced by an older version the .old version will be renamed to main version (current main file will be kept with file extension .delete, which will be automatically deleted after 30 days).
