How to revert to an older version of a data file
Here we restore an older version of the data file from an automatic backup file (.oldN), which is likely missing the latest modifications. To restore the latest version, you should always restore your original data file from backup. If you specified alternative file locations in the Backup section of program settings, then Password Agent always copied the data file to the alternative location after each change.
Previous versions of data files have the extension .old plus a number, like .old1, .old2, etc. These version files will be kept in the same directory as your data file. The newest old version file has the extension .old1, others are older in increasing order. For example, the .old5 file does not contain the last 5 changes. The number of available old file versions depends on the Number of old files to keep when saving program
setting.
Power users can just rename an .old backup file to .pwa to open it as a standard data file, or this can also be done from within Password Agent:
-
To open an .old version file invoke menu command
File | Open
and in the Open dialog list files of typeOld data files (*.old)
instead of defaultData files (*.pwa)
. Then only old version files are listed and you can select one to open. Old version files will be only opened in read-only mode. -
To make the open .old version your main version invoke menu command
File | Revert to .old file
(this command is only visible if you have unlocked your old file with master password). After confirming that you agree that your data file will be replaced by an older version the .old version will be renamed to main version (current main file will be kept with file extension .delete, which will be automatically deleted after 30 days).
