How to migrate Password Agent data to different computer

Migrating data is usually quite easy as all your items and folders are stored in a single data file. Data files have .pwa file extension. By default new data files are stored in your Documents folder, but real location can be different and specified by you when you created the file(s). To move data to another computer you just need to move your data files to another computer. If you need to migrate settings and/or license key as well, follow instructions at the end of the page.

If you are a power user and know where your Password Agent data files are

  1. Transfer your .pwa data file(s) to another computer by the same means you usually use to transfer files. In the destination you need to store the file(s) in writeble folder, like Documents.
  2. In the destination computer open the transferred data file(s) with Password Agent by using File | Open command.

If you don’t know where your data is stored

  1. Invoke menu command File | Take with me to show Take With Me tool. If the menu command is disabled/grayed then you need to first unlock your data file (enter master password).
  2. In Take with me window mark the file(s) you want to copy by selecting checkbox in front of the file(s). Unselect Program files.
  3. Attach removable drive you want to use to transfer files.
  4. Select removable drive path by pressing Browse button.
  5. Press Copy files to copy selected files to selected removable drive location.
  6. In destination computer copy your data file(s) from removable drive to your Documents folder.
  7. In Password Agent use menu command File | Open and select your data file(s) you just copied to Documents folder. Now unlock screen of the file(s) will be displayed in Password Agent.
