You see either "C:\System Volume Information is not accessible. Access is denied." or "C:\RECYCLER\NNNNNNNNNNNNNNN is not accessible. Access is denied." error messages pop up in Font Xplorer, even if Font Xplorer is not foreground application.
This happens on Windows 2000/XP when both of the following conditions are met: 1) You have changed Windows Explorer "Hide protected operating system files" setting to make system files and folders visible. 2) Font Xplorer's disk folder browser is visible or has been visible at least once after starting Font Xplorer and you create, rename or delete a disk folder in your system, outside of Font Xplorer.
There may be many these messages displayed in Font Xplorer, depending on how many folder editing operations have you done. You can close them all and the program will keep running OK. The reason why there are many similar messages is that Font Xplorer gets notifications from Windows when folder tree has been edited so it can refresh the tree in Font Xplorer also and will show a message each time new change occurs.
The problem can be worked around 2 ways -- you can either hide protected oprating system files by changing the option in Windows Explorer (easy) or you edit acess control list of these folders (advanced). Please see The Elder Geek web site for more information.
This annoyance will be fixed in the next major version of Font Xplorer. I feel really bad about this problem but due to technical reasons I'm unable to solve it with a quick fix. |
